This sort of cliffhanger with the different parts of the story makes this book feel like a transition book and the real story is coming in the final book. With the odds against them I was ready for another dose of King's gunslinger magic but I was left holding the bag. King ends this story with Jake and Callahan getting ready to bust in on the Dixie Pig to save Suzannah. I was left lacking with Jake and Callahan's trip to NYC. The chapter with Roland and Eddie lived up to what you would expect from a gunslinger tale lots of action and killing. Roland and Eddie came back to Maine to look for Tower the book dealer while Jake and Callahan are sent to NYC in 1999 to follow Mia/Suzannah. That was just the right move for Suzannah's development Suzannah has been a very crazy, tough, complex character and it was nice to she her take this motherly turn. When its time to deliver the demon baby Mia has proven her self to be weak and Suzannah shows empathy by agreeing to help Mia and her baby escape. King also uses Mia as another personality that helps drive Suzannah's development. The one thing about Wolves that I didn't like was the lack of character development of Suzannah but I guess King was just saving a whole book for that. I had heard from a few other people that this is the book in the Dark Tower series that they didn't like but after Wolves I couldn't see how this book could be bad. ![]()
